Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Policy Statement
Statement of Commitment
Tecvalco Ltd. is committed to treating people in a way that allows them to maintain their dignity and independence. We are committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities in a timely manner and will do so by preventing a moving barrier to accessibility and meeting accessibility requirements under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
Training
Tecvalco Ltd. is committed to training staff on Ontario’s Accessibility laws and accessibility aspects of the Ontario Human Rights Code that applies to persons with disabilities. Training will be provided in a way that best suits both the employer and employee.
Training includes:
• Purpose of the AODA and the requirements of the Customer Service Standards
• How to interact and communicate with people with various types of disabilities
• How to interact with people with disabilities who use an assistive device or require the assistance of a service animal or a support person
• What to do if a person with a disability is having difficulty in accessing our organizations goods, services, or facilities
• Human Rights as it applies to AODA
Assistive Devices
Persons with disabilities may use their own assistive devise(s) as required when accessing goods or services provided by Tecvalco Ltd.
In cases where the assistive device presents a safety concern or where accessibility might be an issue, other reasonable measures will be used to ensure the access of goods and services.
Information and Communication
Tecvalco Ltd. is committed to meeting the communication needs of people with disabilities. When asked, we will provide information and communication materials in accessible formats or with communication supports. This includes publicly available information about our goods, services, and facilities as well as publicly available emergency and safety information.
Tecvalco Ltd. will consult with people with disabilities to determine their information and communication needs.
Service Animals
We welcome people with disabilities and their service animals. Service animals are allowed on the parts of our premisses that are open to the public and third parities. When we cannot easily identify that an animal is our services animal, Tecvalco Ltd. may request verification from the customer.
Support Persons
If a customer with a disability is accompanied by a support person Tecvalco Ltd. will ensure that both persons are allowed to enter the premisses together and that the customer is not prevented from having access to the support person. In situations where confidential information might be discussed, consent will be obtained form the customer prior to the conversation.
Notice of Disruption of Service
In the event of a planed or unexpected disruption to services or facilities for customers with disabilities reasonable efforts will be made to provide advance notice. When disruptions occur Tecvalco Ltd. will provide notice by:
• Posting notices in conspicuous places including at the point of disruption, at the main entrance and on the Tecvalco Ltd. website
• Contact customers with appointments directly by phone or email
• Notification by any other means that may be reasonable under the circumstance.
Customer Feedback
Tecvalco Ltd. welcomes feedback on how we provide accessible customer service. Customer feedback will help us identify barriers and respond to concerns. Feedback can be submitted on the company website, by email or verbally to a Tecvalco Ltd. employee. Tecvalco Ltd. will ensure that documents related to accessible customer service are available on request by posting a notice on the company website.
Employment
Tecvalco Ltd. notifies job applicants and the public that accommodations can be made during recruitment and hiring. We notify successful applicants of policies for accommodating employees with disabilities when making offers of employment. We notify staff that supports are available for those with disabilities as soon as practicable after they begin their employment. We provide updated information to employees when there is a change to existing policies on the provision of job accommodations that take into account an employee’s accessibility needs due to a disability.
Where needed, Tecvalco Ltd. will provide customized emergency information to help and employee with a disability during an emergency. With the employee’s consent, we will provide workplace emergency information to a designated person who is aiding that employee during an emergency.
Tecvalco Ltd. has a written process for employees who have been absent from work due to a disability and require disability-related accommodations in order to return to work, as well as a written process to develop individual accommodation plans for employees.
Changes to Existing Policies
Any policies of Tecvalco Ltd. that do not respect and promote the principles of dignity, independence, integration, and equal opportunity for people with disabilities will be modified or removed.
